Sales down? Your MCA payment should come down too.

Most merchant cash advance agreements let you ask for a reconciliation. The funder compares what it debited with the percentage of sales you actually sold, then adjusts the payment. TrueUp reads your agreement, runs the numbers and writes the request for you to send.

Keep making your payments while you wait. Many agreements treat a stopped or blocked payment as a default. Pay the new amount only after the funder confirms it in writing.

No answer by the deadline? Send the same request again and mention the date of the first one. If the funder refuses or ignores it twice, talk to an attorney who handles MCA cases and bring this request and every reply.

How MCA reconciliation works

You sold a percentage

In a merchant cash advance, the funder buys a share of your future sales, for example 12%. The daily or weekly debit is only an estimate of that share, based on your sales when you signed.

The estimate can be corrected

When sales drop, the fixed debit can take more than the share you sold. The reconciliation section lets you send proof of your real sales and ask the funder to adjust the payment and credit any excess.

Funders take it seriously

In New York, courts deciding whether an MCA is a sale or a loan look first at whether it has a real reconciliation right (LG Funding v. United Senior Properties, 2020; Kapitus v. Suburban Waste, 2026). A clear, documented request is hard to ignore.

The math

New payment per business day = purchased % × deposits for the month ÷ business days in the month

Example: 12% × $87,400 ÷ 22 business days = $476.73 a day, instead of $800.

Does my agreement have a reconciliation section?

Probably. We reviewed 66 MCA agreements filed publicly with the SEC between 2021 and 2026. In 35 of the 40 distinct contract texts, the merchant had an explicit right to request a reconciliation. Some agreements call it an adjustment or a true-up.

What do I need to send?

Usually your bank statements from the agreement date to today, and card processor statements if you have them. Your agreement lists what it requires. TrueUp shows that list in step 4 when it finds it.

How long does the funder take to answer?

It depends on the agreement. Some set a deadline of two or three business days, and some pause the debits while they review. Others set no deadline. Keep the date you sent your request.

Should I stop paying while I wait?

No. Stopping or blocking payments can count as a default, which can lead to a lawsuit or a frozen account. Keep paying until the funder confirms the new amount in writing.

What if the funder says no?

Ask for the reason in writing and keep every message. If the funder ignores or refuses a complete request, an attorney who handles MCA cases can tell you what your options are. Your request and their replies are the record they will need.

Is TrueUp really free? What happens to my files?

Yes, it is free. Your agreement and bank files are read inside your browser and are not uploaded to any server.
